Quiet Pages, Day Fourteen: Planting
My mom didn’t just have a green thumb. She had two green thumbs and eight green fingers. Her gardens, filled mostly with vegetables, fed our family. Fresh tomatoes, corn, lettuce, and spinach in the summertime and canned preserves and veggies all winter long. Mom understood that what started from a small seed or sprout had the potential to grow into something beautiful and nourishing, given the proper attention and nurturing.
The prompt: What will you plant today? It could be an idea, the seed of a new practice or project. Or maybe you want to pot those two heirloom tomato plants. That’s what I did this weekend as a modest tribute to my mom.
The nudge: As writers, as communicators, as humans, we are growers. We plant today what we hope blossoms tomorrow. Make a list of the seeds you sow, the sprouts you nurture, and the blossoms you hope to celebrate. Envision your finished garden. What grows there? How does it look? How will you share your bounty?
The goal: Plant just a few words that you can grow toward your daily writing goal.
