Quiet Pages, Day Six: Do Over
Welcome to Quiet Pages, Day Six. Or for you, it could be day one or day two. That’s OK. You’re here, now, and you’re writing.
Day Six
I’ve been thinking lately about do-overs. Life is fast and busy. Many things get started and never finished. Many more get finished, but maybe not to our satisfaction. I recently attended a concert where the two performers — a husband and wife — performed songs from a recently released album they had been working on in fits and starts for more than twenty years. Now it’s finished, and it’s wonderful.
They could have given up on this project. But they stuck with it. Too often, I might give up or give in on a project when what I really need is a do-over, a reset, or a fresh beginning.
Today’s prompt: Write about a do-over you’ve taken or would like to take. What’s the project or situation? What would help you take that next step?
The nudge: It may be helpful to list the reasons why you stalled, stopped, or abandoned the project. Sometimes listing our barriers helps us see the way around or through them.
The goal: You know. Write five words. Write five sentences. Write more. Write less. Writing is the goal. Don’t like your five words? Declare a do-over and, as my meditation teacher says, “Simply, begin again.”
Thanks for writing. See you tomorrow.
