October Reflections and Intentions

Index cards with handwritten reflections and intentions.

At the start of the month, I sat down with a stack of blank index cards and wrote reflections and intentions to guide me—one on each card. When I stopped, I counted the cards and found I had 31, one for each day in October.

Since finishing these 31 cards, I’ve copied my reflections in two notebooks and now on this blog. I find it grounding. It helps me focus. It fosters a little hope. I may try this again in November, but I want to keep, as much as I can, the spontaneity of it. For the moment, I’ll find comfort and maybe a little inspiration in these 31.

10/1 It’s all temporary. The aim is to make the temporary matter.

10/2 May I seek to love.

10/3 Create. Communicate. Cooperate.

10/4 May I sow love, pardon, faith, hope, light, and joy.

10/5 May I keep my heart open.

10/6 It is giving that I receive.

10/7 Listen fully and deeply without agenda.

10/8 “Fix your heart or die.” - Gordon Cole, aka David Lynch

10/9 I can’t wait to hear your story.

10/10 Plant smiles. Grow friends.

10/11 Kindness is always in season.

10/12 All humans, all creatures, deserve grace and loving kindness.

10/13 Love to live. Live to love.

10/14 I wish you peace. I wish you kindness. I wish you grace.

10/15 Meeting people from different cultures, faiths, and experiences is an opportunity to learn. Living, being alive, is learning.

10/16 Listening is heartwork.

10/17 May I be at peace. May you be at peace. May we be at peace. May they be at peace. May the world be at peace. Peace.

10/18 May peace on earth begin within and radiate without. Be at peace.

10/19 May I live and lead with loving kindness.

10/20 May I seek to understand.

10/21 Read more. Write more. Think more. Share more.

10/22 Mind over matter. The less I mind, the less it matters.

10/23 Flex your humanity.

10/24 Make your art. Share your art. Your art matters.

10/25 Find joy in the ordinary.

10/26 Be kind (because the alternative sucks).

10/27 Practice empathy and loving kindness.

10/28 Be present at times of grief and times of joy.

10/29 Ban hate, not books.

10/30 Esteem. Begin with yourself.

10/31 Life’s rough. Hug your dog.
